![]() Editor's NoteI would like to thank everyone who provided content for this issue of the Chowder. Jack Harton has, as he stated, "During a moment of semi-weakness and in the spirit of cooperation with a fellow librarian," agreed to help me gather and write copy for the newsletter. You will note the new address for the CLAMS Web site: http://library.centralia.ctc.edu/Clams/default.html. Please take a few moments to review the directory information for your library. As indicated in the "News" section, there have been many staff changes. Corrections/additions should be mailed to Hyesoo Albright (halbright@centralia.ctc.edu). President's MessageWelcome to the last academic year before the millennium. Whatever happens in early 2000, libraries and librarians will surely be affected, both directly and indirectly. Fortunately, our next three conferences, parts 2-4 in the "Librarian as Educator" series, all occur before the Y2K. Speaking of conferences, I hope those of you who attended the joint ACRL/LMDC/CLAMS conference in Spokane last April were as inspired as I was to go back home and reassess our library-user education program. Just what is it we're trying to accomplish and why? And how can we best go about it? Brainstorming sheets from Karen Michaelsen's presentation "Putting Your Philosophy into Practice" show many of the ideas generated as a result of her workshop. Our Fall joint conference, second in the series, will focus on "Effective Teaching." Our speakers will help us arrive at answers to such questions as: "How do we meet students' needs in both the classroom setting and on a one-to-one basis? What is effective teaching? How do we begin to evaluate our own efforts, make progress, and know when we've been successful? Please join us for this exciting meeting of the minds on November 5-6 at Centralia College. New this year will be a Current Issues Forum to be held on the second day. The forum will replace the Interest Group meetings, last an hour and a half, and include any topics you wish to discuss. Would any of you like to volunteer to act as the facilitator/mediator of this forum? Best wishes for a peaceful, productive year. Hope to see you in Centralia.
