Coming Next Fall! E-book Conference

CLAMS has agreed to co-sponsor with the Statewide Database Licensing Project (official name and logo for this project to be decided next month)/Washington State Library a special one-day conference in October 2000 that will focus on e-book technology.

Members of the planning committee include: Jeanne Crisp (WSL/SDL), Tamara Georgick (WSL), Paula Palmer (CLAMS/Lake WA TC), Stephanie Carter (SDL/Centralia C), Karen Fernandez (SDL/Highline CC), and Patty Ayala (Timberland Regional PL System).

We are just beginning to make plans; however, it looks like the day's schedule will be somewhat similar to that of Online Northwest. Some of the issues we are hoping to explore include: What are e-books?, What forms do they take?, Who's using e-books today?, How is this technology evolving (i.e. software/hardware today and in the future)?, What standards are evolving? What are the practical aspects (i.e. number of copies to purchase, circulation policies, legal and encryption issues)?

A representative group of e-book vendors would also be on hand to demonstrate their products and answer your questions.

Stay tuned for more information about this exciting learning opportunity!
