Spring '97 Business Meeting

Minutes from Business Meeting, May 16, 1997

Jennifer Wu asked CLAMS if they read the Clam Chowder on the home page or on paper. She was concerned that some CLAMS members are not finding out about the conferences. After discussion it was decided that a letter needs to be sent to CLAMS members containing the listserv address and URL for the home page. CLAMS members would then have that they need to look at their e-mail and stay informed about CLAMS. Sarah Beasley, as incoming president, volunteered to write the letter.

Jennifer stated that we need a printed directory. Libraries that have not paid the fee to join CLAMS through a subscription to the Clam Chowder should be so listed. Then the librarians at htose libraries would know that they need to pay for their own CLAMS membership. After discussion it was decided that librarians at non-member libraries could either pay $10.00 to join CLAMS or an additional $10 for the conference. (They would pay $20.00 instead of $10.00 for the conference).

Robin Crane announced the new officers:

President: Sarah Beasley (Seattle Central Community College)
Past President: Jennifer Wu (North Seattle Community College)
Presidents Elect: Stephanie Carter and Margaret Snyder
Secretaries: Christie Nelson-Everett and Dru Proctor (Columbia Basin College)

Helen Feeney will continue to be Treasurer, and Stephanie Carter will continue to be Newsletter Editor.

Robin stated that she has faxed memos to libraries requesting updated information for a new directory. She has collected that information and will be giving it to Dru Proctor. Dru can then notify those libraries that did not send that information, by perhaps giving them a call to remind them. When Dru has the updated information from all the libraries, she would give it to someone to enter into a database. Robin emphasized that inputting the data for the new directory would be a big job. Jennifer suggested we could pay someone to put the directory on a spreedsheet. She suggested a deadline of August 15th for the directory.

Debra Gilchrist proposed that two CLAMS conferences focus on the librarian as educator and effective programs which could be implemented. Her proposal was accepted.

Jennifer Wu addressed Christie Nelson's memo regarding the taping of CLAMS conferences. Jennifer asked if we should tape CLAMS conferences. It was suggested that informal relationships and the energy from those who attend are important benefits of attending a conference. The Executive Board will discuss this issue.

Sarah Beasley presented Jennifer Wu with a gift ( a scarf) from CLAMS in appreciation for her hard work as president.
